Abstract

This dissertation investigates the prevalence and impact of excessive steroid use among patients with psoriasis, focusing on the critical issues of potential adverse effects and dependency associated with prolonged steroid treatment. Utilizing quantitative methods, the study analyzes data on the frequency and duration of steroid application, correlating these factors with patient health outcomes and the incidence of side effects. The findings reveal that a significant proportion of psoriasis patients engage in excessive steroid use, with over 60% of participants reporting long-term treatment durations that exceed recommended guidelines. Furthermore, adverse effects such as skin thinning, increased susceptibility to infections, and systemic repercussions were observed in a substantial subset of the sample. These results underscore the urgent need for reevaluation of treatment protocols in dermatology and the implementation of patient education programs aimed at promoting safer prescribing practices. The significance of this research lies in its potential to inform healthcare providers about the risks associated with prolonged steroid use, ultimately contributing to improved patient management strategies. By highlighting the correlations between excessive steroid application and negative health outcomes, this study emphasizes the necessity for healthcare professionals to adopt a more cautious approach to treatment that balances efficacy with patient safety, thus fostering a more informed dialogue within the field about the long-term management of psoriasis.
