Abstract
This dissertation investigates the primary causes of compassion fatigue among healthcare professionals and evaluates practical strategies to maintain emotional health. The study addresses the significant prevalence and impact of compassion fatigue in caregiving roles, illuminating the urgent need for qualitative and quantitative data on contributing factors and coping mechanisms. Through a mixed-methods approach, the research identifies key contributors to compassion fatigue, such as high emotional demands, inadequate support systems, and chronic stressors inherent in healthcare environments. Furthermore, the evaluation of various coping strategies reveals that structured self-care practices, peer support, and institutional interventions significantly enhance emotional resilience among healthcare providers. These findings underscore the critical importance of addressing compassion fatigue not only for the well-being of healthcare professionals but also for the quality of patient care and overall healthcare outcomes. The implications of this study extend to the development of targeted training programs and institutional policies aimed at reducing the incidence of compassion fatigue, thereby fostering a healthier work environment. Ultimately, this research advocates for an integrated approach that emphasizes the mental health of providers as a cornerstone of effective healthcare delivery, contributing valuable insights to the field and paving the way for future research and intervention strategies.
