Abstract

This dissertation investigates the potential effects of antibiotic use on the effectiveness of childhood immunizations, seeking to address the critical concern that antibiotics might compromise immune responses in vaccinated children. By analyzing quantitative data collected from pediatric healthcare records regarding antibiotic prescriptions and corresponding immunization outcomes, this study identifies significant correlations that suggest antibiotic exposure may influence vaccine efficacy. The findings reveal a concerning pattern wherein children who received antibiotics prior to immunization exhibited reduced antibody responses in certain vaccines, particularly in those administered during the first few years of life. These results underscore the importance of reevaluating guidelines regarding antibiotic prescriptions during critical immunization periods, suggesting that a more cautious approach could enhance vaccine effectiveness and overall child health outcomes. The significance of this study lies in its potential to inform healthcare practices, urging pediatricians and public health officials to consider the implications of antibiotic use on immunization strategies. Moreover, it highlights the need for further research to refine vaccination protocols and antibiotic stewardship policies, ultimately contributing to improved public health initiatives aimed at maximizing immunity in the pediatric population. This work not only adds to the existing literature on childhood immunization but also prompts a reexamination of how antibiotics are integrated into pediatric care, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that prioritizes both antibiotic efficacy and vaccine success.
