THE COMPREHENSIVE STUDY ON IMPACT OF ORAL HYGIENE ON VENTILATOR ASSOCIATED PNEUMONIA

Abstract

This dissertation examines the critical relationship between oral hygiene practices and the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) among critically ill patients, addressing the pressing question of whether enhanced oral care can effectively lower VAP rates within intensive care settings. Utilizing a quantitative approach, the study analyzes data on oral hygiene protocols, VAP incidence, and overall patient health outcomes from a sample of patients receiving mechanical ventilation. The results demonstrate a significant correlation between rigorous oral hygiene practices and a reduction in VAP incidence, with improved oral care associated with a statistically significant decrease in infection rates over the study period. These findings highlight the pivotal role that oral health plays in the prevention of VAP, underscoring the necessity of integrating comprehensive oral care protocols into standard practice within intensive care units. The implications of this research extend beyond the immediate clinical outcomes of individual patients, suggesting that systematic improvements in oral hygiene practices could lead to substantial advancements in patient care quality, healthcare resource allocation, and overall patient morbidity and mortality rates associated with VAP. By fostering a greater understanding of the dynamics between oral hygiene and respiratory complications, this study contributes to the evolving narrative around infection control and prevention, encouraging healthcare providers to prioritize oral care as a fundamental component of critical patient management strategies.
