Abstract

This dissertation investigates the efficacy of novel angiogenic and anti-angiogenic biomarkers, specifically focusing on the sFlt-1/PlGF ratios, to predict and manage pre-term pre-eclampsia, addressing a crucial gap in the reliable predictive markers for this condition, which poses significant risks to maternal and neonatal health. Through a comprehensive analysis of clinical data from a cohort of pregnant women at risk for pre-eclampsia, the study identifies key correlations between altered biomarker levels and adverse patient outcomes, revealing that elevated sFlt-1/PlGF ratios are significantly associated with the onset of pre-term pre-eclampsia. These findings underscore the potential of these biomarkers in enhancing predictive accuracy and facilitating timely intervention strategies that could substantially improve health outcomes for both mothers and infants. Furthermore, the implications of this research extend beyond immediate clinical application; it contributes to the broader understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying pre-eclampsia and highlights the necessity for integrating such biomarkers into routine prenatal care practices.
