THE ROLE OF DIETARY FIBER IN PROMOTING GUT HEALTH AND PREVENTING GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASES: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

Abstract
Dietary fibre has a significant influence on gut microbiota and human health. Fibre significantly impacts both gut microbial ecology and host physiology. The article highlights the protective effects of fibre against heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and cancer. It emphasizes fibre's ability to lower LDL cholesterol, blood pressure, and BMI while also promoting feelings of satiety and maintaining intestinal health. SCFAs, produced through fibre fermentation, are identified as pivotal in regulating energy balance and supporting immune function. Furthermore, SCFAs are noted for their role in enhancing the secretion of insulin and maintaining glucose mechanism from the gut-brain axis, particularly in individuals with obesity and diabetes. In short, the review highlights the critical connection between dietary fibre, the composition of gut microbiota, and human health.
