Abstract

This dissertation explores the mechanisms and prevalence of antiretroviral drug resistance among HIV-positive populations, addressing a critical challenge to treatment efficacy and patient outcomes. By analyzing comprehensive data on viral load, genetic mutations, and treatment adherence, the study reveals that a significant proportion of patients exhibit resistance to first-line antiretroviral therapies, particularly due to specific mutations in the viral genome. Additionally, adherence levels were found to correlate strongly with resistance patterns, implying that lack of consistent treatment is a major contributing factor. These findings are significant in the context of healthcare as they underscore the urgent need for more tailored treatment strategies that consider individual resistance profiles and enhance patient adherence. Furthermore, the implications of this research extend beyond clinical practice; it highlights the necessity for improved surveillance systems and the development of innovative therapeutic approaches to mitigate resistance. Ultimately, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of HIV treatment challenges, advocating for policies that foster personalized medicine and resilience in treatment programs, which could significantly improve health outcomes for affected populations.
